Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
In 1996, Congress enacted The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This act was designed to help keep patient information secure and established regulations for the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
